Default good ele secondary?

Just wanted some input. I knw you change it way down the road. I know I will be an ele/mo for pvp but is ele/mo viable for pve to beat the game? wat would be the most useful secondary for pve and if anyone has anymore input, best secondary for pvp? thanks all!

E/Me is fun in PvE for the use of Arcane Echo.

Arcane Echo + Meteor Shower + Glyph of Renewal + Meteor Shower + Meteor Shower.

Owned.

18s cast time, 95e cost, 30 exuastion, 60s recharge. I don't think so.

Monk is a good ele secondary, for Prodigy-powered heal-party. Best use of an ele for PvP, and still quite nice in PvE.

I prefer E/Mo or E/Me. Usually I play E/Mo.

Default E/Mo vs E/Me

If you choose E/Me, you need a good monk to help heal you, as other elementalist skills and Ether Feast won't heal you (even combined) well enough against mobs or health degerneration (especially if there are no more monsters and you are still bleeding/poisoned/diseased,etc.).

If you do choose E/Me, the combo you should use is:
Archane Echo + Meteor Shower + Glyph Of Renewal + Meteor Shower + Glyph of Energy + Meteor Shower. Glyph Of energy will make MS cost 5 energy + no exhaustion.

E/Mo is good, but again, you may still need a monk with you, as your healing may not be good enough at times, as well as you need energy management.
Of course, since you play this in PvP, you already know the strengths and weakness of this combo.

E/N is pretty good. You can steal life (even with 0 blood magic), disrupt (and steal life), summon weak tanks to keep you out of arms reach of melee monsters. Also you can gain energy via well of power or another blood elite (i can't remember the skill name).

I hear some people like the E/A, so they can self heal + use elemental damage by casting 3 earth daggers (not sure if Earth tree effects it or not).

Personally, I like the E/R combo. You get troll ungeant, instant running, defenses, the ability to change damage from fire to cold via winter. So you can do nuke cold damage vs fire monsters. With Greater Conflag, and ranger that is with you can start to use barrage and do elemental damage, and you can cast protection from elements (which will boost your defense vs all attacks). Also, if you have access to Serpent of Quickness (reduces recharge time by 33% as long as your health stays above 50%). You can also be a nice trapper with the massive energy you have.

Too bad I don't think any character can solo the whole game (or even with henchies), but I think the Ranger gives the Elementalist some good skills that can help.

Hope this helps you.

I am attempting Ele/Assassin, I'll post later if it works. I have noted that some of the skills are good for your own health instead of relying on a monk.

I like E/R a level 20 pet takes some of the pressure off while tanking for you. E/Me can't be beat for max. fire power in Pve.I have not tried Rt or A yet .

Ether Prodigy is NOT relevant to the choice of secondary profession, unless there's some way to cap it in Cantha without having Ascended.

There IS a cap for Elemental Attunement you can get earlier by visiting Cantha than you can on Tyria, if I understand the updated lists correctly.

I picked Ele/Me and would recommend it to anybody. Not just Arcane Echo, helping get around the long recharge times, but also Ether Feast early on, because the profession is limited at self-heal. And Mantra of Resolve later on. And occasionally fun with the extra energy dabbling in mesmer stuff. And Channeling against some mobs.

Ele/Mo is good for taking conditions off of yourself, however, and the other good choices for that also aren't mesmer.

Elementalist/Necro has some nasty combinations, damaged wise

water/curse elementalist
for instance: Soulbarbs, Mindfreeze, Malestorm =owned

Elementalist/ranger, since Firenukers(meteorshower+glyph renewal) like to have winter spirit in certain missions

Elementalist/Monk, since if one desires to play solo, its nice to be able to ress the henchies multiple times

Elementalist/mesmer, since duplications of spells =more attacks

Elementalist/assasin, teleport to foe +touch spell + teleleport away spells are good combo

unsure about Warrior, Ritualist

so to answer your question, their is no BEST secondary profession, it all depends on your playing style or what strategies you wish to use.

I would say that for most people, the choice they'd prefer in the greatest fraction of the situations they encounter is either Ele/Me or Ele/Mo.

True. E/Me for more flexibility and firepower, while E/Mo to offset your vulnerability and be a pseudo-healer

I'm going to be a little less politically correct here, and say Ele/Me and Ele/Mo are clearly the two best choices of secondary for a starting character, because of the multiple number of WAYS they can each be a good choice.

Later in the game, when you can change secondaries freely, there are good reasons to occasionally switch to most of them. I still play mainly Ele/Mo and Ele/Me, but had a lot of fun as Ele/W because of Balanced Stance (that build may be obsoleted by Ward of Stability, however). Other people have a lot of fun with Ele/R builds for Permanent Obsidian Flesh or Permanent Mist Form, e.g. the Mr. Frosty build, but personally I haven't found them enjoyable.

My other main char is a necro, so I haven't dabbled in Ele/Ne past a few capping runs (I have trouble thinking of an Ele/Ne build I'm interested in playing that wouldn't go better as Ne/Ele), but again YMMV.

E/Me is good for defence from interrupts... Echo nuking is highly overrated if you ask me.
E/Mo is good for soloing and if you want to have hard rez.

In general ele skillbars are crowded enough not to care about secondary, so it doesnt really matter...

I run mainly an E/Me. 400% Aura of Restoration keeps my healh up most of the time. I use echo/ arcane echo and / or Mantra of Resolve from the Mesmer line. Everything else is Ele damage spells.

Some good, practical posts here. Let me chime in.

I ran Ele/Me pre-Ascension. I made heavy use of Ether Feast very early in the game, and Arcane Echo (it's not just for Meteor Shower). I'm not sure why I didn't use Mantra of Resolve -- uh, how late in the game does one get it? Occasionally I'll back a mesmer interrupt for a specific run to please a party member, but I suspect that more damage would be better.

I just switched back from Ele/Mo to Ele/Me for the first time in a while. Why? Mantra of Resolve.

Otherwise, my uses of mesmer skills have been fun-but-suboptimal, or very situational (e.g., Mantra of Frost farming gargoyles for the Wintersday rewards).

Since Ascension I've played Ele/Mo more than Ele/Me. Specific Mo skils I've used have been Heal Party, Mend Ailment, Resurrect -- and that's pretty much it for the successful ones. And Essence Bond as a replacement for Earth Attunement in an Ether Renewal solo farming Earth build against some mobs (mainly trolls).

Default Best Ele in GW PvE

Here's what I've been using for the past 7-8 months ..
I've never encountered any problem with energy or recharge time.

It's Ele/Ranger

1.Serpent Quickness
2.Immolate
3.Fireball
4.Rodgort
5.Glyph of Energy (E)
6.Meteor Shower
7.Meteor
8.Fire Attunment

16 on Fire > 12+1+3
13 on Energy > 12+1
3 on Wilderness > 3

In order I usually do it 8>5>6>>1>7>3>1

Make sure you keep your Attunment UP all the time.
and try to use Glyphy of Energy b4 casting Rodgort sometimes..with attun. UP

Weapons
Rago Wand
Flame Artifact

I usually get lots of praises from being a nuker, and I always stay on the back no matter what and never agroo what so ever.
And I DEAL MASSIVE DAMAGE in short period of time ..
and with SQ + Rago + Flame Artifact ... very often when I cast Meteor Shower ... I HAVE NO CASTING TIME. .. meaning ZERO = 0 cast time.

Here's a little tip for Ele...
*** when you cast a spell on an enemy .. while you're casting .. hit your next spell right away or pressing other spells.. but come back to the next spell you really want to cast b4 the spell you're casting goes off ... *** >> it makes the spell you are casting .. to be casted faster.

Hope that works for you guys.

Huh??

I'd be very surprised if casting time went down to ZERO. That's not my experience; it's not how the descriptions of things read; and it's not what other people say happens.

Also, I fail to see the connection between SQ and casting times anyway. It's a good idea for recharge times -- maybe I'd use it more if I weren't out of the nuking habit these days -- but it has no stated or known effect on casting times.

Also, other than appearances, why use Rago's Wand instead of a standard 20% recharge wand in that build?
